Farm Organizations and Community Life


Farm organizations are an integral part of community life in Knox County, Ohio. Farm service organizations including the Grange, OSU Extension and the Farm Bureau work in conjunction with 4-H and FFA to train tomorrow's farmers and provide instruction and support to the community. The Knox County Fair acts as a celebration of and a showcase for the organizations and their members. We have included a calendar illustrating a year in the life of Knox County, Ohio to reinforce the frequency and stability of farm organizations within community life. Moreover, as the family farm represents a way of life based on continuity and sameness it is often considered an important source of values in America. Similarly, we found farming and community values in Knox County to be inseparably linked. As a result, contemporary issues involving development and the future of farming are important to consider when assessing historical changes between farm organizations to community life.
