Survival Mechanisms for Maintaining the Family Farm
Due to the vast expansion in farming and the economic
instability of agriculture, family farmers have developed a wide variety of formal and informal
mechanisms to remain competitive. In some cases,
farmers move toward a more
formal organization, by incorporating the farm or forming
a partnership. In addition to this
method, informal steps are often taken, including
diversification, and
specialization to assure that the farm remains profitable and productive.
