1. Read chapters 1-2 of Miguel de Unamuno's The Agony of Christianity (E-Res). Write down what you consider to be the three most important points. Briefly note your reactions to these points (agree? disagree? confused? provoked?) - and why you react as you do.

2. Unamuno was strongly influenced by the writings of Paul. What aspects of the Christian story as interpreted by Paul can you detect in his ideas? How does he differentiate the ideas of Paul and those of the earliest followers of Jesus?

3. Write a 1-2 page paper responding to Unamuno's philosophy of Christianity. In your response be sure to use specific passages from the New Testament readings in either the Bible or Van Voorst to explain why you think the way you do.
