Student activities:
Discuss with students what your thoughts about homelessness are. If you have
ever lived in a large city, for instance, you can discuss the problems you observed.
What do you think are the causes of homelessness in the U.S.? Compare with the situation in China, as described by the speaker. Debate with your classmates about what the American government should do about homelessness.
Teacher's guide:
Identify new grammatical constructions in the video clip and practice them with
the students. Clarify any grammar or vocabulary from the video clip that the
students do not understand.
Tell the class about an experience you have had in which you were affected in some way by poverty. Use the new grammar and vocabulary.
Lead a discussion about the causes of poverty, asking the students what their opinions are.
