Student activities:
Discuss your opinion regarding the American national anthem and what effect
it has on you when you hear it. How do you feel about the speaker's reaction
when she hears the national anthem?
Write a composition about what purpose national anthems serve and whether you think they play an important role in national identity.
Bring a sample of your favorite kind of music to class and play a short excerpt for your classmates. Describe for them how you feel when you listen to it, and why you like it so much. Ask your classmates for their opinions about the music.
Teacher's guide:
Identify new grammatical constructions in the video clip and practice them with
the students. Clarify any grammar or vocabulary from the video clip that the
students do not understand.
Bring a sample of your favorite music to class and ask the students to do the same. Before the students present theirs, play yours for them and describe it to them using new vocabulary and grammar.
