Instructional Guide
Student activities:
What crime do you most hate or feel threatened by? Talk with a partner in class
about this crime in Chinese.
Create a short dialog with another student in which you debate about how the government should deal with drugs and present it for your teacher and classmates.
Write a summary of what the speaker said using the new grammar and vocabulary.
Teacher's guide:
Identify new grammatical constructions in the video clip and practice them with
the students. Clarify any grammar or vocabulary from the video clip that the
students do not understand.
Role play and discussion: First have the students choose a crime. One student should be the defendant, one should be the judge. They should role play in a scene in which the defendant's crime is discussed and a sentence is passed. Afterwards, lead a discussion with the class about whether the judge was fair.
