Chapter 7 - Measures of Variability

• Use SRIS applet to compare the standard deviations or variances
• Example - Exercise 33 on p. 258 - Back to Coors Field
  • Import P:\Data\MATH\Hartlaub\SportsStats\SRIS Data\Chapter 7\Ex7-33.xlsx
  • Create a boxplot to compare the two distributions
  • How do we decide which distribution is more consistent?
  • Cautionary Remark - This test is very sensitive to outliers.
  • Challenge - can you get R to conduct an appropriate test for two variances or two standard deviations?
