A few more Zoom demos
- I can create whiteboard notes during our conversations and share them with you in the Class Materials folder.
- You have been given access to lots of R videos that I have created. Please make use of them. The first one some of you may want to look at is the Introduction, where I step through the download and installation process for R and RStudio.
- I have also added a video by Professor Ben Schumacher to our class materials folder. In this video, Ben shows you how to create a PDF with your phone, which may be helpful for all of you.
Chapter 12 - Multiple Regression
- Review - Fitting a simple linear model
- Breakout Zoom Room Question
- From your reading - What are indicator variables?
- Fitting a model with parallel regression lines
- Breakout Zoom Room Questions
- How do you fit two regression lines with one R command?
- What is the advantage of doing this, instead of fitting two separate linear models?
- RStudio demo - Exercise 17 on p. 483 - see NBA2010.R
Problem Session Next Time
- I will ask for a student volunteer to present solutions for each of these problems. You can type your solution into a Word file, create a PDF with software of your choice, or you can just write your solutions on a piece of paper and then take screen shots with your phone to create a PDF version. In short, do whatever works best for you.
- Chapter 12 Exercises - 18, 19, and 20
Class time for projects on statistical models/relationships/prediction
- As I mentioned before our long spring break, our next set of presentations will deal with statisical models and prediction.
- Please send me a short project proposal sometime in the next seveeral days. You may work with at least one other individual on this project or you may work alone. I STRONGLY encourage you to work with someone else because you learn this modeling material best by communicating with one another.
- I am HAPPY to help you on your modeling projects with R. This is what statisticians do, so have fun and please set up Zoom appointments or let me know a few possible times when your groups wants to meet, and I will set up a Zoom session for all of us.
Please read Chapter 13 for class on Friday.
