Discussion of Biased and Unbiased Statistics
Types of Bias
- Selection
- Response
- Nonresponse
Sampling Distributions
- The sampling distribution of a statistic is the
distribution of values which the statistic takes on in repeated sampling.
- Our tools from Chapters 3 and 4 can be used to describe
sampling distributions.
Activity dealing with Sampling Variability
Sampling Bowl - What proportion of the beads are red?
- Create a Minitab worksheet with three columns:
- C1 (R25) = the number of red beads out of 25
- C2 (R50) = the number of red beads out of 50
- C3 (R100) = the number of red beads out of 100
- Create three new columns (P25, P50, and P100) with the appropriate sample proportions.
- Compare the three simulated sampling distributions
