QUILTS

Quilts are very important artifacts found on many farms because they often represent the memories of the farm family. In the past, it was common for women to come together to help one another complete quilts for their families, for neighbors, and for strangers in need. Quilt makers used scraps of fabrics from family member's worn clothing for quilt squares: a creative kind of recycling! In this way, different pieces from each family member were pieced together to make one beautiful quilt. Think about what each of your family members contribute to the family. Each of those members is like a piece on a quilt and you all fit together to make a whole. Think about how you would represent each member of your family as a symbol.
