Dodgeball Cancelled Indefinitely
As dodgeball fans might have noticed, the paddle tennis
court (aka The Cage)
outside of Gund Commons, where we at
KIDL (Kenyon
Intramural Dodgeball League) normally hold our
dodgeball
matches, has been locked this year. Maintenance
told us it was closed for repairs, so I sent an
email to Ed
Neal, Head of
Maintenance, asking when said repairs would
be completed. After telling me he'd look into
it, I
received an email this Tuesday simply stating that,
due to
the natures of the necessary repairs, the cage
would not be
available for use until next summer.
We at KIDL hardly find this fair, seeing as our President
James Miller, who is
sadly abroad this year, sent in a work
order each semester of last year regarding having
the cage
fixed. And despite timely responses from
maintenance, and
an agreement that maintaining the cage was in
fact the
school's responsibility, practically no work was done
either last year or this previous summer. And now
they're
telling us that we'll essentially have to wait until
next
academic year to play dodgeball
of any kind.
So I know what you're all thinking: "I desperately miss
playing dodgeball and had
been looking forward to it all
summer, but what can I possibly do if maintenance
has
refused to help us out?" Well I'll tell you
what you can do.
You can write an
email to Ed Neal (neale) asking (politely,
of course) if they could possibly speed up
repairs on the
cage. Or you can get up out of your chairs and go
to the
phone. Go to the phone and dial PBX 5828
(Maintenance) and
make it known that you can't possibly survive the
rigors of
another year at Kenyon without the mental escape and
physical workout provided by dodgeball.
Or you can get up
out of your chairs and go to the window of your
dorm room.
Go to the window,
open it, and stick your head out and yell:
"I want the dodgeball cage open now! I want the dodgeball
cage open now!"
Appeal to any possible connections any of you may have! Go
to student council! Go to the deans! And if any
of you have
any suggestions, send them to me, Andrew Pankin, at
pankina@kenyon.edu.
Together we'll make our voices heard and bring dodgeball
back to the students of Kenyon.
