< < Home ~ Officers and Minutes
Unless otherwise noted, all minutes were written by the current KCBDC secretary, Alaina Baker, and any questions should be directed to her. There should be an officers' meeting every two weeks for the remainder of the semester. New minutes will appear on this page after the webmasters receive them, but since all club members already receive minutes by email there's no hurry. Excepting minor format modifications, all minutes will be left exactly as the secretary writes them unless the board decides to make official changes. (Asterisks mark the most recent additions to this page.)

5:36 No sign of Ksenia. Search party idea discussed and denied.
5:37 Taryn writes note to Ksenia on board. "Where are you? We miss you! Come back!"
5:38-5:39 Dawn does interpretive Samba to call Ksenia. "little spinny things because we need Ksenia. Twirl because it's interpretive! Boto fogo's because Dawn likes them. Jumping because it's happy. More samba. Leap! Leap! Leap! Doo do doo."
5:40 Taryn wonders why this meeting is happening. Dawn reveals her alternative religion. Pinatas?
5:41 Ksenia arrives. Her shoes make walking difficult, apparently.
Team Dance Captain position has, after much deliberation, been consolidated into a single Vice President position. Change is considered better for team unity.
This Thursday is the Activities Mart for prospies. Gund commons, 3-5pm. Ksenia will arrive early for setup. Be there for at least half an hour to boogie and answer questions.
May 3rd from 4-7, another mini exhibit/activites mart for "Last Day of Loudness" (???) in front of the chapel. We'll teach something simple. It should be nice. Come and have a bit of fun before reading days.
Dawn has a clucking accident.
Yearbook still hasn't sent a photographer, so we'll turn in a team picture from a comp, possibly from OSU.
That's all, folks. Ta da.

Next semester's budget has been submitted. Wahoo.
Psychological society dance (early May) exhibition will be held at the middle school (inside the building) in Mt. Vernon. We are supposed to be there to be "interesting" and "attract people to the event." Volunteers needed! Supposedly, this is respectable. You can do whatever you want (but at least pretend to be sane.)
Officers meetings will be suspended until further notice, so don't expect any more minutes for a while.
Celine Dion is banned from ballroom meetings.
Taryn has a puffy tonsil. Wish her luck.
Ksenia is getting stamps for thank-you cards. Taryn will provide stationary tonight. Bring your parents' addresses if needed, and correct names. We don't care if we get it wrong if you don't show.
Elections are coming up in the next couple weeks. "Dance team captain" office may be eliminated or consolidated with "Dance team vice-president" under that name. If you are intending to run for: President, Vice President, Treasurer (see Angie), Secretary, Historian, Webmaster (note that these two are separated), and possibly Vice President of Dancesport Team, relegating the other VP position to control of the social club… think about a speech. Elections will be held during regular practice time, possibly right after Rutgers. Ask about specific positions if you want more information. Officers WILL be required to help organize, set up, attend, and take stuff down for events starting next semester. That should be all. La.
Sara, Grace, and Alaina simultaneously break into a boogie… play that funky music! Becky is frightened. "Fun with seizures??"
According to Taryn, this was the most fun officers' meeting she's ever attended. We are bootylicious!

Jen draws "old kenyon," David misinterprets, Grace has fun drawing building's wings, Jen draws the Beta rock on fire.
Thursday, because some people will be at Igor lesson in Columbus, and Res. Life stole Gund commons that night, everyone is encouraged to go see Pippin. We do have Lower Dempsey reserved if people want to practice.
Alaina asks how many shameless Pippin plugs she can put in the minutes, because there are 4 dancers in the play. Jen thinks more than 6 is too much. David will leave them up to Alaina to add.
And here's the first.... PIPPIN. Thursday and Friday night at 8pm in the Hill. Free. There's an orgy and dancing and music and all sorts of good things.
For next year, Jen reserved Gund commons for times we want. She got it a little earlier on Sunday so people can take private lessons with Igor. We'll worry about that next year when we see who is here.
The dance on Saturday officially sucked. Barely any dancers came, and no one from Adelante or Latenites helped advertise, set up, or clean up at the end of the night. Taryn says that if anyone tells her that there wasn't enough advertising, she will hit them, because no one helped her (that's not true, but it sure felt like it). The only people who came were drunk people trickling in over the course of the night for free pizza.
Mucho points to everyone who helped set up, and even more points to people who stayed until 2 to clean up.
This bullshit will not happen again. We saved money by not paying anyone to move tables, and then only 7 or 8 girls from ballroom dance were there to move tables.
The swing dance at the beginning of the year was a hit, and the Starlight Ball was a hit because of Igor and Svetlana (and the number of people there significantly decreased when Igor and Svetlana left). We can't always use our wonderful teachers to draw crowds, and we can tell from past experience that dances are not what Kenyon students want. But, we cannot stop doing events that are all-campus or benefit Kenyon, or we will no longer receive funding.
Ideas are:
Ksenia says that from now on, Officers will be required to help set up and clean up events unless they have a valid excuse (and "my dog ate my homework" doesn't count). We will get sign-up sheets for various responsibilities, and all active dance members will need to sign up for something, i.e. drive to Vernon for decorations, or helping set up, or helping clean up, or advertising, or whatever. But this will be mandatory also, unless you have a valid excuse (other activities are good enough for normal members, but officers need to make ballroom events a higher priority, because they're officers and all).
David is bored of listening to everyone argue about why we can't just not have events, and what we should do, and why the dance sucked, etc. Shortly, the dance discussion ends, because we have other things to discuss (yay!)
Second shameless PIPPIN plug.... You know Tim. You like Tim. Did you know that Tim is playing the part of Pippin in PIPPIN? This is something that Tim has been working on for a long time, with the purpose of making it entertainment for YOU. Now that's heart. He's done his part, you do yours. See the show!
OSU this weekend. Thank you Dawn for getting us more guys. We have another newcomer from Illinois, however he is 6'2", so discuss logistics of dancing with Isankya or not. Dan is housing 8, including himself. It looks like Matt will need to house 2 people, possibly Kerry and Isankya. People will figure it out tomorrow, and let people know about housing tomorrow (or before thursday hopefully). If you have any preferences, email Ksenia (sokolyanskak@kenyon.edu), but keep in mind that Matt wanted as few people as possible. Ksenia refuses to stuff too many people into Dan's apartment, so now if you want to be at Matt's, say so.
Discuss logistics of cars being used. We think there are no problems. If you don't know who you are riding with, email Ksenia. To avoid bogging down Ksenia with emails, people giving rides, email the people who you are taking and/or bringing back to let them know. However, it doesn't sound like there are any problems.
Again... I know you like and appreciate good music. Well, what else does PIPPIN have? Great music. And where else will you be able to hear Jen Underwood play an orgasm on the violin? Unless you get to know her REALLY well, this may be your only chance. See PIPPIN!!
Team match at OSU. We will have 3 Kenyon guys and Carl (dancing with Jen) for the team match. It is the general sentiment of the club to have no ringers (outside dancers brought in to help us win). But Ksenia says that it's shit for people to not come to practice and then expect to dance in the team match (no names given, but you know who you are). We won't be able to get a second team going, but possibly we could add on with Illinois or OSU for a second team.
It all boils down to this: It will be argued again at the competition, probably twice, and everyone will get frustrated.
Jen will give directions to drivers, because Matt doesn't want to do it.
"It's not like it's hard to get there!"
The webmaster would like to take this opportunity that the last time we did this she got lost. Twice.
**Side note, Shock Your Mama is the weekend of the 20th, not this weekend.**
Gracie is cool. Gracie is talented. Gracie is also involved in PIPPIN, as a makeup maven. Now, I KNOW you like glitter... you're ballroom people!! Well, PIPPIN has enough glitter even to please the biggest glitter aficionado. And that's Gracie's job! Come see PIPPIN and cheer for glitter!
Rutgers is weekend of Summer Sendoff, but many people are considering it. It is a very long drive, but it will be a very good comp, large, and against East Coast that we rarely see, without the bitchy Maryland judges.
Lots of foot-in-mouth action at this meeting (says Ksenia).
Oh, and I'm in PIPPIN. I dance and sing a bit, and look creepy, and have an orgy. It's nice. My mommy and daddy are coming to see it. It would make me VERY happy if you could, too!
Seperate Email: Before Igor lesson next sunday, need to discuss next years budget. Everyone who needs to be there, be there.
People leave, I stop writing.

Budgets ("money-getting") are due on Monday the 8th by midnight. We're working on it. Officers... stay tuned for possible upcoming meeting regarding the issue.
Igor is coming this Sunday, and that day is also the Yearbook photograph day. Be there, look pretty, and smile! (He will also be here Thursday and next Sunday, but no pictures, just dancing.)
If your family has hosted us this year: E-mail Ksenia sometime before OSU with contact information so we can send our thank-you's.
Calle Ocho is this Saturday, the 30th! 10 to 2 in Upper Dempsey, with set-up starting at 8pm. If you would like to help put up flyers or otherwise be involved with advertising this week, ask Taryn and she'll help set you up. Everybody should try to come to this "event" if at all possible. There is a possibility that we will serve pizza instead of the usual pickings, but we'll keep you posted.
The Counseling Center has asked if a few team members would volunteer for Mt. Vernon's Psychological Awareness Week (the week of May 4th). For some reason, a ballroom exhibition is Psychologically Aware. Angie will get more info. If you are interested in helping, brush up on your extra psychological dances.
Phillip Ross is everyone's hero. We want to be him when we grow up.
Ksenia needs a copy of the mission statement.
April 19-20th is visit weekend. Remember the activities fair at the beginning of the year? We'll set up a similar booth in Gund during "Prospie fair" and rotate shifts. It's our first crack at next year's crop, so let's get out there and INFORM THOSE PROSPIES!!
Right. That is all.

***David gets fed up with Gracie and lets her do notes.***
Jen expresses distaste at the thought of staying at Matt's house for two weeks.
Daniel leaves.
Becky drops her bowl.
Angie went to accounting today... we aren't really dirt poor
Competition discussed for Bryan Stokes' benefit.
Ballroom dance club declared "shady" by Taryn... suggestion for Collegian headline.
Jen says we're bonding with other teams.
Ksenia likes bonding... everyone agrees our bonding is "shady."
E-mail Bryan about your experience at U of M.
Jen liked Jake on Friday night but not Saturday.
Jen needs to let go of the whole Lindy Hop thing.
Matt's dancing compared to turtle stuck on its back. Moving on.
Ksenia needs list of paid members.
Non-paying members are "shady."
SAC people (really nice) = "they" who need purchase orders.
Account OK, no begging or car-washing for us (Happy, Matt?)
More talk about accounting (the not-so-shady side of the KCBDC)
"Anna says 'yay us.'" -Jen's cryptic comment.
Sara enters covered in snow. People comment about this.
We got too weird at Christmas and it got rid of our money. (??)
***David disapproves of Gracie's notes and wrests the notebook from her grasp. Gracie pouts.***
After OSU, Igor is going to Germany to learn German. Discuss craziness of Igor's ability to learn foreign languages. (Learned Italian like nothing.)
We talk about where Matt is. Might be lying down, injured. But then he walks in.
"Speak of the devil," someone says.
Igor Lessons:
Sunday when we get back
the next Sunday
(dance on Sunday two weeks after we get back)
Lesson three the next Tuesday
(OSU comp)-Igor that Sunday
(Igor goes to Germany)
Ksenia mentions ribbons in SAC
Trophy dedication tomorrow at SAC at 2. Jen gets break in work, Ksenia says goodbye to trophy.
Pictures from U of M:
"Why no pictures of me and Jen!?" -Ksenia
Picture of Jen, "I look lesbianish!"
Matt also complains that he's not in pictures.
Matt needs to look up deadline for OSU.
We need to nominate one person to go to recognition dinner.
Nominations:
Taryn says we don't need to vote; oligarchy, not democracy.
Jen tries to back out of her nomination because she's a picky eater, but she is told that dinner attendance isn't mandatory. Phil got a paperweight last year, person will get a certificate.
Discuss how hot Isaac was (too bad he's gone). Matt objects; he is shot down.
Vote on nomination at practice tonight at 10. (People who didn't show missed it.)
People say that everyone will vote for Ksenia anyway, but she insists that it be a fair vote.
Bethany put in charge of making people vote.
Ksenia says that other people really deserve this, and to not vote for her.
Meeting adjourned.
Discussion about Ksenia being a model. She responds, "Yeah, for plus sizes." Everyone disagrees. Taryn says average size of woman in America (nice phrase, David!! ~A.B.) is 12-14. Matt comments that we are the fattest country in America. People all mock him. Note-takers leave.
Addendum, 2-27-02: Despite her efforts to prevent it, Ksenia was indeed elected to attend the recognition dinner. This did not surprise anyone.

Dinner tonight was yummy. Just thought I'd share.
20 competitors for Michigan as of now. This means three vans, which we have! (At least, we're fairly certain.) 6 certified drivers. Drive will be "chunky" (?) Four drivers will have to come back early to make the arrangements work. Ksenia needs to know exactly who will be picking up what van. They (the vans, drat the English language!) will be available at 11, and people will be leaving by about 3 (supposedly). Stay posted for van assignments.
Officers' forms redone-lets get up to date!
Various Kenyon gossip.
Announcement from Taryn. She and Phil are broken up. On a personal note, I am NOT dating Bryan Curtis Benedict Stokes II. Just so you know.
Taryn is also wearing orange. More discussion.
Men can dance up a level with TWO partners for Michigan. Keep this in mind! "Get men and make them dance up and down things," says Matt.
"Sliding doors" on syllabus in Swing, Cha-cha, and rumba. Apparently, we know more that one Igor. This other one is blonde. Weird.
Dates for Igor lessons in spring (the ORIGINAL Igor. Not Blondie.):
~Sunday, March 24, 8:00-10:00
~Sunday, March 31, 8-10
~Tuesday, April 2, 9-11
~Sunday, April 7, 8-10
Ksenia says: Igor is disappointed in our disrespectful behavior at lessons (coming and going, not dancing, etc.) Fixing these isn't an unreasonable request. Please PLEASE work on this.
Team match at U of M will be at the very end; will be figured out later. Stay posted.
E-mail Ksenia immediately if you have a class past 2:00 and/or if you are allergic to animals. This will be very necessary for assigning vans and housing.
Gavel.
Wait, nevermind. PAY DUES or you will be taken off SAC list and dis-list.
Gavel. Really.

March 30--Adelante and Ballroom: Salsa Band in Upper Dempsey Motion to get food: specifically good food. Variety? But we want cheap food. Pizza suggested.
Daniel asked about Bands, possibly the last band we had. "We liked them, right?"
What funds are available? Ksenia mentions some people are really good at begging for money.
Trophy to possibly be put in SAC (they keep giving us money, anyway) not Athletic Center because "we are not a sport."
Money limits number of Band members, split cost between 2 groups, ask different people (Adelante is talking to Snowden, and we'll take care of Fun Funds.)
Bye bye Daniel
David Ashe has been quiet because he's writing.
After explaining Alaina's absence, Matt asks, "So is she gonna be here?"
Ksenia rolls her eyes.
People will see our trophy at SAC, but nowhere in midst of sport trophies; ours will be lost.
Suggestion to call ourselves Div. 3 National Champs because no other schools our size are stupid enough to do ballroom.
Discuss showing off ribbons, but not sure how it would work. Suggestion: Ksenia needs a gavel. Jen: "I think a gavel is a worthy enough purchase."
Matt worried about Ksenia with gavel, suggests spoon instead.
David brings up point about Igor wanting us to take notes, Dawn says she usually does anyway. Jen: "Motion to make Dawn do it." Ksenia seconds it. Web site needs to be worked on. Dawn says officers list needs to be updated.
(Shana looks in, then leaves.)
Discuss what to buy Igor next because Igor didn't get paid. Angie addresses money issue because someone suggested she resign. She was extremely sick and hallucinating and checks have been late because college wasn't giving her money. This check she found in fridge, she though she gave it to Lucy. No one thinks Angie should step down. Motion to move on, Bethany to speak first: If Angie wants to do job, she should be able to, but if sick, need to get someone else to do job. Respect: "We need to, as a group, work on respecting each other more."
Long Awkward Silence.
Ksenia needs list of who has paid club dues. Need list, not just dues, but if haven't paid, pay Angie.
Vans for Michigan: not enough drivers for 4 college vehicles, Dan and Erin both have volunteered vehicles.
Slim chance of getting 2 vans and a car, Dan will drive car, If 1 van and 2 cars, Erin and Dan will drive.
8 people in play and one person also need to come home early, so if 2 vans, 14 people coming back early.
Housing: do we need more housing at U. of M.? Matt wants to get hotel, because he doesn't like staying with people. Blamed on cat allergies. Matt is not allergic to trees. Neither is Taryn.
Matt says it's ridiculous that we were beaten so bad at Case, suggested specialized routines for team matches. Everyone says it's not embarrassing, but we need to work more on certain dances. Taryn points out that it will be pointless next year. Grace motions we fight some more.
OSU is April 6th, and there are a bunch of conflicts, so team match (minus Shy) will be more difficult. Matt emphasizes necessity to kick ass at team matches. East coast looks down on Am. style, while Midwest focuses on Am. style.
Ksenia says David and Diana must learn open routines. Matt says I need to flirt with more gay judges, Ksenia agrees, says Phil and David must work on gay skills.
Start talking about pink dress, Matt bashing, people leave.

Competitions!
A motion was put forward by Matt… Officers' meetings to be held less often after Michigan Comp? I have no idea what was decided. Show up anyway until further notice.
Another motion decided… we will never discuss inter-ballroom shagging at meetings.
Confusion over "Podners." Someone had a bit too much ho' down, Matt.
Meeting adjourned. Or something.
Discussion: Ksenia in need of gavel.
If you have not turned in $$$$$ (or just $) for dues and comps, don't be a ballroom deadbeat! In case you forgot, dues for social club members are $10/semester, and competing team members pay $15. An additional $15 is needed from those of you who are going to Michigan, and is due today. The cash is going out tomorrow, and "Ksenia waits for no one." Don't make me use multiple exclamation marks, people. They're a sure sign of a diseased mind. I really mean it!!!!!! (Drat.)

Case forms need to be mailed off-Angie and Matt to accomplish tomorrow.
Michigan forms "last of the crap" should be turned in tomorrow. Check to be mailed Friday, so pay up! All of online stuff has been taken care of.
More money stuff-we need to pay Igor. Angie's jurisdiction.
Tentative Igor dates: this weekend and next 3 weekends (Yes, even over Phling). 4 before break. Not after Michigan, that would be silly. Ksenia will check those with our illustrious instructor.
"Prizes" from Swing Dance to be disposed of. One movement to make Mrs. Potato Head our mascot. (Unless Becky still wants to be a shoe…) We'll probably give the spuds to Igor & Svetlana. Box of spare decorations, etc., also to be disposed of. Anybody want a bag of chips??
Matt misses Pete. Aww.
Chip issue brought up again. Chips & Salsa at next practice.
Weekend of March 30-event with Adelante. Bringing band to upper Dempsey. Big party, more info to come.
Angie reminds everyone… "PAY DUES!" (& thanks to those who already have.) If you want to find her outside of Ballroom, try the Art Barn.
We will get thank-you card to Steph's parents. Soon.
Matt leaves at some point. "Girl talk" ensues, after comments on the speed and efficiency of this meeting. Phling, various high school prom stories, and intense discussion as to who on campus could be classified as a "doll."
Officers' form to be redone, for my sake.
See you on the dance floor!
