3. DC Dance Inferno-Sat & Sun, Nov 9 & 10
4. Ohio Star Ball-Nov 23 & 24

II. READ THIS TOO

A. NO practices this week. Get settled in.

B. The famed Activities Mart happens 12 pm-3 pm this Saturday. Come show off and entice froshies. Not in a creepy way, in a dancing, fun-loving way.

C. First official new meeting (with new people, we hope) is the Sunday after the Activities Mart, September 1. First lesson (newbie and the rest of us) is the subsequent Tuesday, September 3.

D. Ballroom kickoff swing dance is swiftly approaching!! Friday, Sept. 6. Lesson 10 pm-11 pm, dance 11 pm-1 am. Be there! There will be food. Exhibition is cut, so show your stuff on the floor, because it's better P.R. than the Activities Mart!

E. Dues will begin to be collected ($10 for social, $15 for competitive) at the first meeting (Sunday Sept 1). Bring it in! After newbies join and pay up, we will be removing from the list all names (new and old alike) that are unpaid. (Unless you are abroad/away and strike an agreement with the lovely club secretary.)

F. Possible elementary school volunteer activity at Wiggin Street. More to come.

III. APOCRYPHA

i. Mr. Ross: "Optimism, children, optimism." Also, "Dude!"

ii. Taryn: "Ksenia is hot."

iii. David A. arrives. Meeting ends immediately.

Officers' Meeting Minutes: 9-17-02

Folks:
Alaina B. (me!!)
Taryn M.
Becky P.
Ksenia S.
Sara M.

Business:

My computer is cool. Yes it is.

Webmaster take note website needs update. Officers' names (ASAP), minutes, dates, pictures, etc. (pretty pretty please) Ask Erin's sister if you have questions about how to do whatever Erin did.

If anyone has old pictures from last year, lend them to our Webmaster Phill or give photos you can part with to Sara for the scrapbooks.

Official list of club members DUE this Friday. Only 27 of you folks have paid. Some of the returning members are UNPAID as of yet shame on you. You will receive an e-mail soon with the list of paid people. If you are NOT on that list, PAY UP. When the dis-list is updated, unpaid members WILL be dropped. Official member list is due at SAC this Friday.

If you are interested in competing and want to be really useful, consider getting registered to drive Kenyon minivans. (good drivers especially!) Every van that goes to comps needs a couple of certified drivers. You may not even be asked to drive, but it's just to be on the safe side.

Parents' weekend: It'll be a smallish gathering with some demonstrations. Usually fun, so bring your folks. E-mail the team if you have any cool ideas. Stay tuned for date and time.

If you do community service hours and want them to end up on your transcript, Ksenia has forms. We'll use this new program for official ballroom service activities.

USABDA rules have been updated old members should go to Cornell comp website and check out the new YCN proficiency points. New members don't need to worry about any of this until they compete. New competitive team members will register for USABDA at a meeting in a couple weeks. Expect an e-mail.

Sara has Cornell info if you want to get registered. The comp is ON parents' weekend.

Dance Time!!! Taryn has sneezing problem.

Officers' Meeting: September 24, 2002

Folks:

Taryn M.
Alaina B. :P
Ksenia S.
Sara M.
Becky P.
Other people milling around

8:34 pm Taryn and Alaina wonder where other officers are. Discuss Alaina's psychosomatic hiccupping disorder.

8:37 pm Taryn and Alaina discuss Pseudo-syesis. Look it up. It has nothing to do with breasts being tenured. Or something.

8:39 pm Ksenia arrives, and there is much rejoicing. (yay)

8:42 pm Sara arrives. She's so dreamy

8:47 pm Gossip. Becky arrives. More gossip.

Actual meeting:

A student office is available, and we're applying for it so the club doesn't have to live out of the back of Ksenia's car. Storage space is good.

Naz classes in October we're still scheduling, but it's on. We need to get our name out over there more regularly, so it's a good PR trip as well. If they have a good space and want to host the occasional Igor lesson, we could travel there and set up a "branch office" for the club. More to come.

Taryn is in charge of parent's weekend event, which will take place at 1pm on that Saturday. Informal exhibition and lesson. Make your parents dance!!

Ksenia cannot keep track of everybody's name. Nametags? Silly name games? Don't be insulted for now. We're trying.

*We need to have a competition meeting!! Attendance is MANDATORY if you THINK you might want to compete in the future. If you can't make it, we can work something out It'll be this Sunday night at 10:00 after the Igor lesson. (If Igor reschedules this week, the meeting will begin at 9:30.)

This Wednesday there is a meeting for all club sports. We need to fill out some forms Never mind. Ksenia will handle it.

Everybody! Register to be a driver!! You'll be horribly useful for comps. This means newcomers, too! Ask at Security about the next scheduled session (possibly next week?)

That's all, folks. Gavels don't work on couches. Sigh.

Officers' Meeting Minutes for 10-15-02

Present:

Becky P.
Taryn M.
Alaina B.
Ksenia S.

Business:

Cornell stuff Competing members: bring sleeping bags. Ksenia is attempting to contact some alums to provide housing. Await further developments.

Michigan MUST be registered THIS WEEK. Bring $15 this week if you're going.

Everyone in the club needs to complete a student athelete form (Ksenia has them). This includes social dancers! Get one from her ASAP. For competing members only: you MUST be registered for USABDA before competing. See officers for instructions. (P.S. Can someone please tell Alaina how to register? She's sadly ineffectual. Thanks!)

Officers are striving to be more on top of comp business. And all business. Next week we're getting started on funding for our next Kenyon dance, Starlight Ball on December 7.

Good luck everybody who's going to Cornell to represent the team! (especially our first-time competitors) Have lots of fun, and do us proud!

Officers' Meeting Minutes for 10-22-02

Yuman Beans:
Taryn M.
Becky P.
Alaina B.
Sara M.
Ksenia S.
Kimberly Z.
Jen U.*

Business:

Purdue registration must be postmarked by Monday, so plan to get your stuff done this Thursday and Sunday. Star Ball is due November 4, so that needs to get arranged as soon as Purdue is set up (Think next Wednesday-Thursday).

Igor: next Tuesday, Sunday Nov 3, Sunday Nov 10 (right after Michigan), and Sunday Nov 17. These are our last four scheduled Igor lessons for this semester.

*Wait wait where is Jen? We miss jen. This meeting would be better if Jen were here instead of her mother making her crazy about flight arrangements on the phone. We miss jen.*

Michigan people E-mail the ballroom account (or let officers know) if you have any pet allergies so we can start figuring out housing. Taryn's (pet infested) house is only so big, so everybody else will need to be accounted for by U of M's housing.

If you want to change your U of M registration, go to the website and take care of it yourself. According to Taryn, it's self-explanatory. *Another moment of Jen-missing.*

December 7th dance: Latin band in Peirce, 10pm-2am. Put it on your calendar now! Cool name ideas, anyone? Current first runner-up: "Porn Hips and Salsa." (Oooh, zesty!) (Alaina's personal favorite "The Orgy") *Also "Faculty Student Latin Mixer" is an option. Or "Latin, Dance, and Pants" could be applicable. Alaina agrees "there will be panting no matter what we call it".*

*Ooh. Ooh. J.P. is here. We miss his floppy hair but enjoy seeing his eyes again. Too bad other upperclassmen guys don't show up to Igor lessons. No names mentioned. No curly haired Fantasticks starring men who are afraid of Svetlana mentioned.*

*Asterisk-surrounded portions of minutes added surreptitiously by Jen U.

We love Mike Ludders again. All is well. (Ksenia said he isn't hot, though. So forget that. But we still love him.)

Grace and David arrive. "Ballroom orgy"

Tim is proclaimed "selfish."

Alaina likes "quotation marks."

Grace is in charge of asking cartoon characters for money.

David flirts very much. Hitting on Alaina, Sitting on Alaina, Knitting on Alaina. Yeah, ballroom orgy!

Grace knits alluringly.

Sara smells good.

She also giggles well.

"The Ballroom Dance Club will steal your least favorite campus monument for cash" ~Becky

No snide comments about jokes that already happened. Now it's official.

"It's easy to mock short people. They can't kick as high." ~Grace

Ksenia is cold. Or hot. N??

No more business. Becky is turned into a pumpkin. Grace will hit six white mice up for money.

Officers' Meeting: November 12, 2002

Homo Sapiens here:

Alaina B.
Taryn M.
Becky P.
Ksenia S.
Allyson W.

Business:

8:30 Alaina sits by herself and muses about the universe. All in all, she approves.

8:34 Taryn arrives.

8:35 Looking at pictures. Becky arrives. I have now seen a picture of the national champion llama. Champion at BEING a llama. Cool.

8:40 Ksenia arrives, and there is much rejoicing. (Yay) Followed by Allyson. (Yay too)

8:43 James wanders in. And out again.

Purdue housing still up in the air. Taryn will let us know as soon as they get back to her.

8:47 Peter comes in. James comes back. Both stand around looking slightly lost.

Are you going to Star Ball?? Let Ksenia know ASAP. Tell her if you have an available car, as well.

8:48 Peter wanders over to the piano, as per usual. Tinkling strains of ABBA float across the ballroom. Nice.

BFC is trying to make Ballroom an OFFICIAL KENYON SPORT, so we'd be funded by athletic dept. That leaves the Social Club aspect up in the air, but it would be really cool for money. We'll keep you posted.

Ksenia has e-mail of music guy for the dance. Still working on funding. Start getting excited!

Thank you cards will be done for our comp hosts at the first officers' meeting after break. Show up if you want to help.

Ksenia has fuzzy purple gloves, and Allyson's nose pops. Life, eh?

Ksenia can't think, so we're done.

Never mind one last thing, and it's IMPORTANT. We'll have elections for next semester's officers at the end of this semester. Abroad members CAN run, just e-mail the ballroom account with a letter of intent (i.e. what you want to run for, and why you're qualified, and the name of a proxy to speak for you.) Newbies are DEFINITELY allowed to run for any and all positions. Think about it!

Alaina loves you!

Officers' Meeting Minutes for 12-10-02

Attendance:

Taryn M.
Ksenia S.
Allyson W.
Sara M.
Becky P.
Alaina B.(late, sorry!)

Business:

Not much... somebody beat me to the punch with election results... sigh. Well, these are my LAST MINUTES AS SECRETARY, so here's the stuff. I'll try not to make it sound like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh, at least.

Our faculty advisor has respectfully abandoned us. We're finding a new one. More to come... I think we should form a search committee and open up campus-wide meetings like the presidential search, but maybe that's just me. In the meantime, I nominate chalupa for interim advisor, since he's obviously up to the task. (Except he can't sign forms and isn't faculty, but with today's modern technology I'm sure the former will be rectified soon, and as for the latter... he could teach Chihuahua as a foreign language!)

If you left a peach soap dish at Taryn's for U of M, she still has it. If you want a peach soap dish and stayed at Taryn's for U of M, she's accepting bids.

Thanks to everybody who helped write thank-you notes last night.

As for non-paying members who are still on the dis-list, especially those of you who like to send long-winded (albeit humorous) ballstus, gather ye rosebuds. I can't promise the same kind of lax dis-list maintenance under Dawn's iron-fisted secretariship. In addition, any attempt at forming splinter groups and usurping KCBDC power, especially from outside the ballroom itself, will soon prove futile. Plus, we settle everything in intense, head to head, grueling dance-off style, so unless you can dance the dance, don't you be talking the talk. Come to practice.

Love,
almost ex-secretary Alaina
