Kenyon Film Society Mission Statement

Because the ability to set goals is what sets us apart from damn dirty apes.

The Official KFS Mission Statement:
Composed of and directed by students, KFS is responsible for selecting and projecting the films shown each weekend throughout the academic year. In addition, KFS sponsors projection and production of student-made films and provides a forum for the discussion of the art form. KFS films are free to the Kenyon community.

The More Accurate KFS Mission Statement:
The Kenyon Film Society provides students with critically-acclaimed, artistically-worthy films, both classic and contemporary, domestic and foreign, cult and avant garde, that they would otherwise be unlikely to see on a big screen. Whereas, what is on the big screens in Mount Vernon is consistently bollocks, as well as a schlep from campus. We of the KFS walk that precarious tightrope between commercial viability and artistic merit. Balance is key. And we know how to work the equipment in the KAC, which is kinda cool.

What KFS does:

  • Occasionally provide door prizes.
  • Host hangman competitions.
  • Occaisonally show unannounced supplemental films.
  • Host an all-campus Oscar party.
  • Turn off the lights before performances.
  • Enforce proper theater etiquette, unless we're making fun of Halloween. (2006 update: Or Snakes on a Plane)
  • Send out critically-acclaimed, artistically-worthy allstus.
  • Question the validity of Hugh Grant's celebrity status.
  • Think about maybe trying to get David Lynch to come to Kenyon at some point, if we feel like it.
  • Show all Tom Tykwer films.
  • Demand that Cuba Gooding, Jr. return his Oscar.
  • Refer to Tom Hanks exclusively as "Mr. Easypants."
  • Wish we were at Kenyon on March 14th, so we could show Pi.
  • Condemn the editing of James Van der Beek out of Todd Solondz' Storytelling.
  • Endorse Yatta! as the Summer Send-Off band. This year, and every year.
  • Provide links in our Mission Statement, so you will know exactly what we do and do not show.
