Roman Mystery Religions

One might be tempted to ask, in a website dedicated to Concepts of Blood, Power, and Gender in Christianity and Judaism, why study pagan Roman cults? The answer is an easy one. First, it is an important thing to remember that Christianity took time to evolve. It too was once one of these "mystery religions" that existed in the heterogeneous Roman Empire. Second, Christian ideas didn't come out of nowhere. Many of the ideas that modern Christians hold come directly or partially from these ancient religions.
