Assignment 7

1. Read Unamuno, "The Pretense of Social Christianity", 78-92 (E-Res), and Gutierrez, "A Theology of Liberation" (E-Res). Which readings do you find the most "radical" (define "radical")? Why?

2. Then scan the Van Voorst readings, pp. 301 - 310. Choose one topic on which to focus. Depending on which topic you choose, see also on the class website either 1) the papal argument against some aspects of Liberation Theology, 2) an article on genetic manipulation, and 3) a philosophy article on Natural Law theory and same-sex relationships . Which Christian (or non-Christian) traditions do the articles use for their arguments? Are they convincing? Why or why not?

3. Write a two page paper explaining each author's argument and your reactions, assessment, and analysis of them.
