In April, 1999, a group of monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery spent a week at Kenyon creating a sand mandala in the atrium of Olin Library. The mandala represented Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, and was dedicated to the long life of the Kenyon community. When the mandala was completed, it was then swept up (symbolizing the impermanence of all existing things), and the sand was ritually scattered into the Kokosing River. Following is a series of twenty photographs of the entire ritual process.
