Follow-up Training Sessions

 

Follow-up Training Sessions (To be Updated for Spring 2011)

 

Upon being selected you will be required to attend the following post-selection training sessions.

Session I: AT Class Visitations
Faculty members will take small groups to visit current AT classes (to occur in the semester of selection) and discuss and critique the session. The sign-up sheets for class visits will be posted outside Ms Sheasby’s office (ASC 19) after tryouts. You will need to sign-up for one session that will be followed by a 45-minute discussion with the Professor and the group of AT’s who observed the class with you.
Tuesday 5:10, March 22 in ASC 202, led by Professor Olshanskaya (Russian AT class)
Thur. 4:10, March 24 in ASC 326, led by Professor Dubrovic (Italian AT class)
Thur. 7:10 in March 24 ASC 225, led by Professor Sun (Chinese AT class)

The objective of this session is to let the newly selected ATs see a current AT in action and learn about the role of the AT classes in our language curriculum and learn how to conduct an AT class effectively. Copies of the AT evaluation forms will be available for taking notes and for the follow-up discussion.

Session II: Classroom management and other techniques
MLL Faculty and AT’s will discuss classroom management techniques and pedagogical strategies such as effective execution of lesson plans, pacing, simple substitution technique (to be held in the semester of selection). The whole group will meet in ASC 125; breakout sessions will follow for hands-on training. This session will be led by Professors Bai, McGavran, Metzler and Rodriguez-Nunez.

Session III: Classroom Management Techniques
KILM Director and ATs will discuss classroom management techniques such as seating, rapport, target language use, preparation, and free-time activities (to be held during the semester of appointment). Date/Time TBA. Please look out for emails announcing this session.
