Name: Socrates
Born: 422 BCE in Athens, Greece.
Died: 352 BCE in Athens, Greece.
Notable Accomplishment: Founded Western philosophical thought.
The Basics: A lover of wisdom, Socrates often spent hours contemplating the mysteries of the universe.  He was the teacher of Plato, who in turn became the main source of our knowledge of Socratic thought.  He was condemned to death for blasphemy and corruption of youth.  After his conviction, he drank hemlock poison, ending his glorious life.
