Least Skipper
(Ancyloxypha numitor)

This small skipper can be found from mid-May through September in wet grassy areas near streams, ponds and roadside ditches. In the BFEC gardens adults may be seen visiting clovers, oxeye, daisy vervain, and thistles. This species tends to fly low to the ground and can be easily missed. When it perches the wings tend to remain folded. It can be most easily identified by its small size and weak flight. In flight the black markings on the upper surface of the wings can easily be seen.
