Studio Art Senior Exercises: 1999-2000

For completion of the Kenyon College Studio Art degree, senior art majors must prepare and curate a week-long exhibition of their work in the Olin Art Gallery. During the early part of the spring semester, all senior studio art majors are required to submit a one-page abstract describing the main developments of their work over the past four years. This document helps students conceptualize their project and serves as the foundation for the oral defense of the Senior Exercise.

Arranged in groups of three to four, the students plan and arrange gallery announcements, installation format, and opening reception. The exhibition derives from work completed during the students' senior year. Students are expected to display the work in a professional manner: proper framing, mounting, display, or other presentation. Students must install an exhibition of a sufficient quality to clearly show the direction of their concepts and the development of their skills.

During each week-long exhibition, the exhibiting seniors meet individually with each member of the studio art faculty for thirty-minute oral defenses. The oral defense consists of student descriptions of the primary aspects of the work exhibited, and faculty questions and reactions
